Apple has revealed that the iPhone 5 was pre-ordered more than two million times within 24 hours. That’s double the iPhone 4S’s record of one million.
“Demand for iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply and while the majority of pre-orders will be delivered to customers on September 21, many are scheduled to be delivered in October,” Apple said in a press release today.
“iPhone 5 pre-orders have shattered the previous record held by the iPhone 4S and the customer response to the iPhone 5 has been phenomenal,” said Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller. “iPhone 5 is the best iPhone yet, the most beautiful product we’ve ever made, and we hope customers love it as much as we do.”
If you haven’t managed to pre-order a iPhone 5 but still want to get your hands on it on Friday, the day it’s released, you could always queue up outside the Apple Store. Don’t expect to be first in line, though, as queues have already begun forming outside Apple Stores in London and New York.
