Apple has issued a statement in response to the major criticism its new Maps app has received since it launched with iOS 6 on Wednesday. Users have been reporting missing train stations, relocated landmarks, buildings in rivers and many more inaccuracies in Apple’s new map service.

“Customers around the world are upgrading to iOS 6 with over 200 new features including Apple Maps, our first map service,” Apple spokeswoman Trudy Miller told AllThingsD. “We are excited to offer this service with innovative new features like Flyover, turn-by-turn navigation, and Siri integration. We launched this new map service knowing it is a major initiative and that we are just getting started with it.”

“Maps is a cloud-based solution and the more people use it, the better it will get,” Miller continued. “We appreciate all of the customer feedback and are working hard to make the customer experience even better.”

Many users are desperate to get Google’s Maps app back, and the Guardian reports that Google “is enjoying the bad press Apple is suffering.”

The Guardian’s sources have said that Google is working on a Maps app for iOS 6, but there is no guarantee that Apple will approve it in the App Store.

In the meantime, if you, like many others, really don’t like Apple’s Maps app, here’s how to get Google Maps back on an iOS 6 iPhone.

If you look a street map you would find easily this address - 501 Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park 1 - but Google map has no mention of this pace... unless you have the street view.

Apple were 5 years ahead back in 2007, how the heck can they now have a map app that's 5 years behind ?

To save face.... Apple need to quadruple their efforts on this over the next 12 months. For me it currently makes iOS6 the big mustn't have for 2012. Maps plain and simple isn't ready for release and, as much as it would probably have pained Steve if he were here, I'm sure he'd have extended the Google license, or struck up a deal with Bing Maps if he saw where the back-end of the Apple App was. He'd certainly be screaming and firing people in the corridors by now.

Face it, you ain't getting Apple supplied Google Maps back!

Sure Apple made a big mistake with this, I don't believe for one minute that it would have happened with Steve around, but happen it has, and I have faith that Apple will sort it.

In the meantime, stop bitching, use the suggestion here and get Google Maps back on your iOS6 devices as an interim measure!

By the way, Google is by no means perfect, despite it's massive advantage of seniority, I have witnessed driving directions from middle England to the East coast of Scotland advising a route across the North Sea, (no ferries involved!) It's a pity Google didn't try to Street Map this!
