Virgin Media has confirmed that EE and Vodafone users will be able to use Tube Wi-Fi broadband for free from early 2013.
The broadband provider has signed up EE and Vodafone as wholesale partners of its London Underground Wi-Fi service. Virgin Media launched the Tube Wi-Fi for the Olympic summer and has extended free usage for anyone until the end of the year. Ofcom announces 5G plans for beyond 4G
Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, said: "We're rolling out the service to reach even more stations throughout London, from Camden Town to Clapham Common and, thanks to our partnership with EE and Vodafone, the majority of Tube users can stay connected for no extra cost."
As of the start of next year, only Virgin Media, Vodafone and EE (including Orange and T-Mobile) will be able to access the service for free. Other customers will be offered pay as you go deals starting at £2.
EE said on Twitter: "From early 2013, EE customers will be able to access WiFi on the #London Underground at no extra cost."
A total of 72 Tube stations are already Wi-Fi enabled and Virgin Media said it will install another 20 stations in December. A further 28 stations will be added early next year.
