The children of former Microsoft boss Bill Gates ask for iPods and other Apple products, but are given Microsoft alternatives instead, Melinda Gates has said.
Bill Gates' wife Melinda, who guest-edited the Radio 4 Today programme on the 28 December, was asked if the couple's son and two daughters had ever requested an iPod, and she admitted that they had - but that they were banned from owning Apple products.
"Of course they ask," she said. "But they get Windows technology. The wealth from our family came from Microsoft so why would we invest in a competitor?"
After scaling back on hostilities as Apple faced off against Google and Samsung instead, Microsoft has renewed ambitions to snatch Apple's market share in the smartphone and tablet sectors. Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8 products have seen cautiously optimistic reviews so far, but many critics doubt that Microsoft can catch up with Apple and Google's more mature app ecosystems.

My be if they bought it for them the would understand why they want it and how they interact with it then they my understand what it's success is and perhaps use that knowledge to protect that future weatlh and keep it coming in.
