Apple has seeded the latest version of iOS 6.1 beta 5 to developers, but some are claiming that it may actually the GM (Gold Master) release.
Members of Apple's Developer Connection can download pre-release iOS software, with new features to test out their apps. These are traditionally locked to iOS devices that are registered with Apple. Typically Apple released beta versions of software via the Developer Connection, before releaseing a GM (Gold Master) version. This is the version that is released to the public.
Apple has been seeding beta versions of iOS 6.1, which is said to introduce new features to the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices. It is claimed that the latest iOS version includes updated Maps API (so developers can integrate Apple Maps with their own apps), and updated Siri and better media controls on the lock screen.
What's intersting is that the latest version is still marked beta, but isn't locked to registered devices. This makes it the equivilant of a GM release. Effectively Apple can release it at any time. Winocm on Twitter said "Looks like iOS 6.1b5 isn't a beta. It activates without devleloper registration and has no ReleaseType lockdown keys".
Hackers are alleged to be already working on a jailbreak for the build, and an untethered Jailbreak is said to be coming soon from the hacker community.
Twitter is also buzzing with rumour that the build references a 128GB iPad.
