Fun in the sun for iPod classic, nano and Video users

Cons: Experience limited compared to multi-touch interactive iPhone and iPod touch applications.
Min specs: Compatible with iPod classic, iPod video (5th Generation) and iPod nano. Also works with nanos 1G and 2G, but photos are unavailable.

Billed as an application store for iPod classic, nano and video users, Notecasts.com offers a range of eBooks covering literary classics, hobbies, holiday destinations and more. The store, run by TimeStream Software, even offers a guide and platform for users to write their own. Inexpensive, the Notecasts are installed and stored in the 'Notes' section of any compatible iPod.

Updated for 2010, Walt Disney World Guide is a flagship Notescast and includes over 230 pages with over 250 images. Armed with a rather elderly iPod classic, the experience is relatively basic compared to your typical iPhone application. Nonetheless the information and images to hand are clear and informative. Twenty categories, including details of individual attractions, venues, hotels, restaurants, tours, tickets, a what's on guide and phone contacts make browsing information quickly a breeze. The guide also promises details on how to save money and avoid those lengthy queues.

Content appears to be of a decent quality, and compares well with guides we found available on the web, and unlike internet resources the Walt Disney World Guide doesn't require you to be online. The balance between giving you an overview of the resort's many attractions and more in-depth and behind the scenes information is just about right. Very much child friendly, our two junior reviewers, aged 7 and 9, found the guide a good read and easy to navigate. The included images are colourful and varied and help set the scene. Notescasts are also available for the iPhone and iPod touch.
