Macworld Buying Advice
If you’ve been cautious and waited a year for the second generation of iPhone, your patience will be rewarded. The iPhone 3G improves on the original iPhone’s audio quality, offers access to a faster data network, and sports built-in GPS functionality. You’ll also be getting in on the ground floor of the exciting new world of third-party software written for the iPhone. And business users will appreciate the iPhone’s new Exchange syncing features. If you’re an existing iPhone user, the fact that your current phone will be able to take advantage of all the iPhone 2.0 software features, including Exchange syncing and third-party applications, blunts some of the excitement of this upgrade. If you live in an area with a 3G network and find yourself chafing at the comparatively slow speeds of the EDGE network all the time, it’s worth the £99 upgrade. But if you don’t mind the internet experience on your current phone, you’d be better off installing the 2.0 software update and holding on to your existing device.

User Reviews

Star Rating:
Duration of ownership: 10 days
Strengths: On screen keyboard (love it, especially the .com key in Safari) speech clarity, user interface, gaming, screen is lovely (when its not blank white after another crash)
Weaknesses: Poor camera, no flash, zoom, no profiles!, no video, no voice dial, no MMS, no cut, copy, paste, GPS is poor,(tracking in google earth is joke) locking up and crashing.
Overall Evaluation: Very poor, clumsy once past the home screen, underfeatured (is that a word?) and unreliable. I returned mine after 10 days as it is not much use at all, could not even connect to another phone via bluetooth to transfer a simple file! Sorry Steve, try again other manufacturers fit a lot more in the same space.... Might buy again in a year or two if they really get stuck in and sort it out.

Duration of ownership: 1 months
Strengths: 3G is brilliant. internet is really fast. Brilliant Mail App and Google Maps with GPS. Makes all my friends really jealous.
Weaknesses: Camera is a bit rubbish.
Overall Evaluation: I really love the iPhone 3G. It's much better than other phones and the internet and email is really good. Why would you want any other phone? I dunno, I guess some people are just dumb.
