The World Cup In An Hour for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, is just that, a quick but informative guide to the greatest sporting attraction in the world. Published by Collca in association with History in An Hour, it should appeal to football fans young and old, as well history buffs. Author Rupert Colley has done a decent job of presenting a wealth of information in bite sized chunks, that while brief, never feel superficial.
Each World Cup, from Uruguay in 1930 to South Africa in 2010, is neatly summarised, while separate sections cover 'Hosts and Finals' and 'Facts and Figures'. The latter will be particularly appealing to anyone who loves trivia, with 'Top Goalscorers', 'Most Appearances', 'Red Cards', Oldest and Youngest amongst topics covered. For England fans, sections covering penalty shoot-outs may bring back painful memories.
One slight niggle is the lack of images to enhance World Cup coverage, while a selection of useful links and recommendations for further reading would have been a plus. That said, World Cup In An Hour is just one of a growing selection of apps from Collca and Colley that offer quality reads, especially for those who might struggle to find time otherwise to sit down and read a traditional book.
