Highly comprehensive weather app gets an update and Premium subscription service

WeatherPro for iPad was a top-drawer app, even before this update to version 2.0. Breaking down weather forecasting into the minutest of details, it’s still fun and easy to use.

The big thing in version 2.0 is the addition of an in-app upgrade option to a Premium version – for an additional charge of £3.49 for a year or £1.19 for three months.

WeatherPro for iPad 2.0 offers great detail: a forecast at three-hour intervals, temperatures in Celsius or Fahrenheit, a ‘feels like’ temperature, wind direction and speed, air pressure, precipitation and humidity, and animated radar, satellite and isobar maps.

The Premium update adds hourly intervals, 14-day forecasts, and animated wind conditions, as well as ski weather for resorts around Europe. The extra volume of data needed to keep 14-day forecasts up to date slows the app down very slightly – we noticed a progress bar that hadn’t appeared before we upgraded. Over WiFi it’s hardly noticeable, but it’ll be slower over 3G.

The Premium version is something of a mixed bag. A forecast by the hour will reek of overkill to most, but a 14-day forecast has an appeal if you’re planning weekends ahead.
