Sophisticated multi-user, multi-platform video-conferencing software
If you want a sophisticated cross-platform video-conferencing option, then take a look at Cisco’s WebEx. There are versions of the WebEx app for both the iPhone and iPad, as well as software for Macs and PCs, and even machines running Linux or Unix, so you can set up a video-meeting with pretty much anyone who has a computer or some other type of mobile device.
The WebEx apps are free to download, and it’s free to join in meetings that have been set up by other users. However, the host – the person who sets up and controls the meeting sessions – has to pay £30 per month to do so.
The host can schedule meetings to start at specific times, and email invitations to colleagues that allow them to join in. A slick carousel effect makes it easy to see who’s joined the meeting, or you can switch to full-screen video if you just want to chat with one specific person for a while.
The host can share documents with other people in the meeting, and also has the ability to ‘pass the ball’ – temporarily allowing someone else to take control.
