- Star rating:
This educational but fun app collects several hundred of the Science Photo Library’s best close-up images of insects, spiders and other creepy-crawlies, and allows you to search and view them easily on the iPad’s large, sharp screen.
There’s a brilliant ‘ew!’ factor when viewing leeches, lice, tapeworms and other nasties in glorious full-screen high definition - the electron microsocope captures an astonishing level of detail, enabling you to make out the little claws on a tarantula’s foot, for instance, or a tick’s mouth parts – and children who are fond of the gross side of science should thoroughly enjoy the app, at least for a while.
There are brief annotations on each slide, and you can ‘favourite’ the ones you like best for convenient viewing later.
