Carousel is Adobe’s vision of how you can store and share stills online. It allows you to upload photos, either entire albums or specific images, into, yes, ‘carousels’: each carousel organises photos into rows, by date. To see more photos taken on the same day, swipe that row to the left or right.
There’s no limit to the number of photos you can upload but you can only have a maximum of five carousels. Frustratingly, you can’t organise pictures within them manually.
The most interesting aspect of this service is the ability to share carousels with up to five people – who you have to invite in order for them to see your images. Your friends can upload further photos into your carousel and even apply effects to any of them.
There are 16 filter effects to choose from, plus adjustments like altering the white balance, exposure, contrast, etc. There are also cropping and straightening tools. You can send photos from any carousel you have access to, via email, Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.
Carousel works on a Mac and any iOS device, but you must download an app for each device to access it: you can’t get to it via a web browser. Worse, you must be online to access images stored in Carousel, even your own.
Despite limited functionality, Carousel works well on any Apple device
