Game Your Video aims to take the pain out of editing video footage, while producing more palatable results for friends, family, Facebook and YouTube.
Editing tools sit in an interface that loosely resembles a handheld video gaming device, which anyone can easily master. Motion and audio effects are available by tapping buttons at the bottom of the screen, either while playing or recording a video. Effects made on live recordings are currently irreversible, so we suggest a trial run before shooting that epic scene live.
Motion effects include speed up and slow down, shake, spin and zoom footage. These produce mixed results, and could be over used. Much better is the Visual Grandeur selection, which adds filters such as cinematic, noir, and spooky to videos. Flavors, meanwhile, combine a preset combination of video and audio effects to create a look specific to various film genres – Charlie Chaplin style, for example.
The audio effects and filters are superficial and add little. Frustratingly, adding your own soundtrack wipes the original audio. We'd like better editing tools, cleaner, more attractive cuts, fades and transitions, and the ability to combine effects and edit longer recordings.
