- Pros: Colours; sound quality; style; tangle-resistant cord; the ability to fold the headphones; price
- Cons: Not ideal for prolonged use
- Price: £50
- Star rating:
Everyone loves music. At the same time, we don’t want to look like a tool by wearing headphones that are unstylish and ugly. Style-conscious music lovers may wish to consider these good-looking Plattan headphones by Urbanears.
The Plattan headphones are full-sized and provide a refined, rich and good-quality sound. They feature something called a ‘ZoundPlug’, which allows you to share your music with a friend. Another useful feature relates to travelling, an environment when headphones are in their element: the Plattans are collapsible and fold into a convenient, easily portable triangle. Urbanears says the 120cm fabric cord is tangle resistant, and we tend to agree. But we would have liked a slightly longer cable.
The Plattans come in a choice of around 20 colours, making them perfect for those who want their headphones to be unique and stylish. But comfort of fit is just as important as looks, and while the headphones felt good for about two hours of use, they got a bit uncomfortable after that. Possibly not suitable for prolonged use, then, but a comfy couple of hours ought to more than enough for train, plane and car journeys (unless you were planning to wear them non-stop from London to New York) and casual use around the house.
Sound quality, finally, is really strong for a pair of headphones at this price. Taken with the sturdy build quality and appealing looks, £50 sounds like a bit of a steal.

Star Rating:
Duration of ownership: 4 months
Strengths: As described in the article on the mark. Great sound; great design and easy to store away.
Weaknesses: Disagree with the prolonged use comment in that it is fine in winter. However for glasses wearers will rub against the arms of the glasses and also in summer your ears do get a bit warm.
Overall Evaluation: For the price and for the usage the best headphones I've ever bought. Have already recommended them to others and considering getting at least another pair for spare.
