Founded in 2006, Xero is an online small business accounting software provider, offering a web based alternative to more traditional, often PC only software. Its It's been praised by users for its simplicity and convenience, and as it's web based, is very much Mac friendly. Xero for iOS devices adds to the convenience, offering users a chance to view financial information on the go.
Users can view bank accounts, credit cards and PayPal balances, outstanding invoices, expense claims, and create, approve and send invoices directly from Xero Touch. Your iOS device’s built-in-camera offers a simple way to keep, or at the very least back up receipts, so you can easily track expenses, especially on your travels, without relying on a pocket full of paper. Being able to invoice clients on the move is also a big bonus, a painless process that quickly creates a PDF suitable for emailing and archiving. Additionally, Xero Touch integrates Google Maps for locating clients and arranging meetings while out and about, another potential time saver.

Xero currently lacks the full capabilities of the online, web-based Xero, although we are assured future updates, including iOS improvements from Apple, will rectify these relatively minor shortcomings. The Xero website is already smartphone friendly but the addition of a 4-digit PIN code makes the app appear that much more secure.
Xero offers a free trial with some limitations, and while Xero Touch is free you'll need a monthly plan to actually use the app. These start from £12 per month for a modest package aimed at undemanding users. £19 gets you a much more value for money deal, the most popular with customers, while £24 a month adds multi-currency options for companies who work internationally. Xero have pricing plans for various locations and all UK prices exclude VAT.
