Thu, 14 Feb 2013 Joe Danger Touch for iPad & iPhone review: console classic improves on mobile platform
A console port that's better on mobile? On yer' bike!
- Manufacturer: Hello Games
- Manufacturer: Hello Games
- Pros: Brilliantly reimagined for touchscreens; Beautifully drawn and animated; Very compulsive gameplay
- Cons: Unnecessary micro-transactions despite price
- Price: £1.99
- Star rating:

Danger is my middle name. Actually, it's Peter, but even if it were, I wouldn't be as well fitted for the brilliant stuntbike jumping fun of this as our title character. Joe Danger was originally a downloadable indie gem for Playstation 3, but this iOS port is anything but a lazy conversion. A lot of thought has been put into making the transition to the small screen on the move as smooth as possible, with stunts, wheelies, ducking, lane changes, hops and everything else handled by simple swipes of the screen. The courses are also nicely short – perfect for quick goes between bus stops, but with at least 3 medals to earn on each level, there's plenty to keep you coming back, and unlocakables to be collected.
This all leads to a game that possibly surpasses the original, while managing to maintain the impressive colourful 3D cartoon style on a tiny screen. The gameplay is moreish and ramps up the difficulty nicely over the course of the game, making it perfect mobile fodder. The only real criticism I have for it is that despite costing £1.99, you're still encouraged to top up your in-game currency for unlocks with micro-transactions. They're not ever forced, but it feels a tad cheeky after the (relatively) high price of entry.
