Thu, 21 Feb 2013 Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes for iPad and iPhone review
Anime-style spin off of the long-running Might & Magic strategy/RPG series
- Manufacturer: Ubisoft
- Pros: Looks lovely
- Cons: Bug-strewn; May bring your iPad or iPhone to its knees
- Price: £2.99
- Star rating:
Fresh from a triumphant reception on Nintendo DS and then console and PC, this smaller-scale, anime-styled spin-off from the long-running Might & Magic strategy/roleplaying series finds itself a natural new home on iOS. Clash of Heroes makes some unusual choices, most especially in terms of the on-rails navigation around its colourful world, but battles are nuanced and surprising turn-based affairs, melding strategy with Bejewelled-style match-3 puzzles.
Rather than deploy armies, you stack matching units like you'd stack matching gems in Bejewelled, with different effects and boosts depending on what you put in there.
Unfortunately not enough work has been done on the conversion from the fuller-fat Xbox and PC version, so while it looks lovely it's bug-strewn and it'll often bring your iDevice to its knees.
