The basic coding app your kids will eat

SurfScoreLLC's premise for their Kodable app is very simple: "The fuzz family crash landed on Smeeborg and they need your help navigating the Technomazes".
The commands to get the fuzzballs through the mazes are all drag and drop so with a little trial and error we can easily find our way through, earn the rewards and get to grips with the fundamentals of coding. My 12 year old was initially scathing of the simple colourful interface until I asked her to help her six year old sister. Half an hour later she had worked through the whole first world, completely engrossed.
The first level teaches the very basics, how to go forwards, up and down, and conditional statements, "if this, then that". The difficulty then increases with a repeat button, coloured squares as part of the instructions, and loops.
The second world (available through an in-app purchase), introduces more complexity, combining functions with conditional statements, and with more fuzzes. A third world, focussing on debugging techniques, is in development.
Kodable is fun to use, challenging, and educational, and we are looking forward to more.
