- Manufacturer: Altec Lansing
- Pros: Decent sound quality belies small stature, good bass, attractive all black looks, simple controls, case for travel is built-in, 'Works with iPhone' approval, reasonably priced.
- Cons: Fold back cover will be little use to those who never move, yellow LED light distraction in dark rooms, no remote control, batteries can be potentially costly.
- Price: £59.99
- Star rating:

The Altec Lansing inMotion Compact iMT320 for iPod and iPhone is one of a small number of docks aimed at both home users and those who like to take their music with them. It comes with a mains adaptor and room for four AA batteries, which while adding weight, does offer portability and playability when you are far from home or even in the garden enjoying the sun.
The inMotion Compact comes with a novel wraparound travel case that can also protect the unit when not in use. Users simply place the soft leather-like case in an arc behind the dock to create a stand. As the cover is fixed you won't need to send out a search party to find it when do plan a trip. Overall, the dock is stylish with just three controls for power and volume up and down. A yellow LED power indicator glows in the dark, so if you fancy some late night listening, in bed for instance, this may be a distraction.

Good looks are matched with decent sound that is pleasantly rich and detailed considering the modest size and price. In the press release Altec Lansing highlight the front firing ports, which the company claims helps enhance low-end sound. The makers also promise excellent bass response, which in reality isn't far off from the hype, although there are no additional bass and treble controls for those who like to pump it up.
For iPhone users the music automatically pauses during incoming calls and, like many docks, charges iPhone or iPod while powered. The dock comes with a range of iPod adaptors and 3.5mm jack input for second device connection, including computers, CD, DVD, and non-Apple MP3 players. The diminutive size - just 4 inches tall, 9.6 inches wide and 1.8 inches thick - means you should be able to find space for the iMT320 dock just about anywhere.
