Apple's iPhone 3G seems set to go on sale in an additional twenty countries this month, with 17 already confirmed for launch on 22 August.

The device seems set to ship in ten countries across Latin America, more across Europe and India that day,

America Movil will introduce the iPhone in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. Telefonica O2 will also introduce the device in eight of the aforementioned countries, though America Movil will be the exclusive provider in Honduras and Paraguay.

The device will also launch through various operators in Estonia, the Czech republic, Hungary, India, the Philippines, Poland and Romania on 22 August.

In related news, Japan's third-biggest carrier, Softbank, confirmed it added many users in July, with new customer additions boosted by the 11 July release of the iPhone 3G there. The company said it added 215,400 new subscribers in July.

all these countries get it, but not the richest in the world... Luxembourg. And we've been waiting with breath that is baited for so long...

No provider silly enough to take on the contract?

Along with Luxemburg, Iceland is not on the list, not even for the original iPhone. Iceland is also one of the richest countries per capita and there are at least three big phone companies here.
Still there are a lot of iPhones here, bought in the US and obviously cracked. In the company where I work with 45 people there are 7 iPhone owners - more than one of every seven people.

I'm living in Belgium and can't get the iPhone delivered since the introduction on the 11th of June. In the shop I bought it they have a backorder of 350 units. I'm number 200. Every week they get about 20 iphones. So what is the point of releasing this product in another 20 countries when they can not supply it?

And we don't get it on the Isle of Man either. O2 owns our telecom provider (Manx Telecom) and we have the first 3G network in the world. I like many others are very disappointed.

Hey andrew - that is very interesting, thanks for that. I'll chase it up.

In Norway, there were 10000 hacked iPhones some time ago. That's three times more than Iceland, but the population is 15 times higher in Norway. Number of iPhones (hacked) per capita is 5 times higher in Iceland than in Norway. What a tiny market...
