Warner Music may refuse an annual deal with iTunes

Warner Music may join Universal in refusing to reach a one-year deal with Apple over music distribution through iTunes, as the sides form for a future battle for control of the digital music market.

Citing "sources", an extensive report in the Washington Post claims Warner Music Group, whose contract with Apple expires at year-end, is now also considering switching to a month-to-month deal for content it offers through Apple's iTunes Store.

The report also explores Apple's current travails in the video market, and examines how the major labels are using the moment to fight back against what they perceive as too much dominance on the part of iTunes.

The report also notes NBC Universal accusing Apple of being in breach of contract as the spat between the two corporations ends in an unsatisfactory stalemate. All NBC Universal shows will disappear from iTunes on 1 December.
