Apple may subsidise the next-generation iPhone, introducing it at just £100 per unit, a report claims.

The Times reports Apple to be expected by analysts to be prepared to allow mobile phone partners (O2 in the UK) to subsidise the cost of the 3G iPhone.

UBS analyst Maynard Um thinks the new iPhone could be available across Europe for as little as €99, but will cost £100 in the UK, where O2 has the exclusive distribution deal.

CCS Insight analyst Ben Wood said: “They are also looking for more flexibility on how the operators can price the iPhone, although I am not convinced that they will let them have open season on the price, as they have a lucrative iPod market to protect.”

The Times also reports the new model will ship in July, shortly after its US launch.
