Fri, 19 Jun 2009 London queues for first iPhone 3GS sales
iPhone fans were up bright an early this morning, joining queues outside O2 shops and the Apple Stores
iPhone fans were up bright an early this morning, joining a queues outside O2 shops and the Apple Stores around the capital in search of a new iPhone 3GS.
The iPhone 3GS is not a free upgrade to existing users, so queues as large as the ones last July are not expected. Also the contract is slightly more expensive than last year’s.

We spoke to one new iPhone owner outside the London Bridge O2 store who had upgraded his original iPhone. He explained: “My current iPhone is now out of contract so this upgrade was a no brainier. Knowing that iPhone 3G owners have to pay a small fortune to upgrade if they want a iPhone 3GS makes me very happy that I didn’t update my phone last July.”

A similar queue has formed outside the Apple Store. iPod User editor Andy Penfold is down there now, talking to the crowds hopeful to walk away with the new iPhone 3GS. We’ll have that report soon.

They are just queing at the bus stop cause the tube is cancelled, It just happens to be outside an o2 store! There is no way 19 people would que to pay o2 iPhone prices!!

I think that O2 should allow 3G users to only pay for the remainder of the phone to end the current contractual obligation.
Alternatively, 3G users should be allowed to buy a P&G without the bundled £10/month for 12 months Data plan....
It seems that all the other major providers abroad are making some kind of consession and O2's current stance feels very unfair, certainly to the early adopters like me that first bought the original at a high cost and then did the upgrade with the intention of upgrading again for the third version....

Kevin. Are you serious? Have you ever seen London people queue efficiently and orderly for the bus, tube strike or not, this is a queue for the new iPod. This is London where city boys insecure in themselves need the latest gadget especially now since they have less respect than ever.

There were 8 of us in the queue at O2 Stockton-on-Tees. I was the only one after a 32GB version which I thought was wierd.

Well at 11 this morning no cues at O2 in Arndale Manchester. Was a breeze with a complimentary cuppa and the times. Was out of there in under 30 min…
