Shazam, billed as the world’s leading mobile music discovery provider, has announced the launch of its new Shazam Encore application for iPhone and iPod touch.

Shazam Encore promises extra features, fast performance and a slick new design. The application allows users to discover songs they here playing from a database of over 8 million songs.

Among new features, Shazam Encore adds music recommendations. Users can discover other music similar to the track that’s been tagged to enhance their music collection and knowledge. Shazam music charts generated by millions of other 'Shazamers' can be accessed to help users keep up to date with the new tracks and players in the music scene.

Shazam now automatically enters into car mode when the iPhone is placed in an in-car dock to make it simple to discover what’s playing on the radio even when driving.

Available from the Apple iTunes App Store, Shazam Encore costs £2.99 and requires the iPhone 3.0 Software Update or later.

Shazam, which has enjoyed more than 10 million downloads to date, will still be free. Shazam will continue to support the existing free Shazam application on the App Store but new users will be limited to five tags per month.

The free version of the Shazam application has also been enhanced with services such as the ability to share tags onto a Facebook mini-feed.
