Mon, 09 Nov 2009 Smaller "worldmode" Apple iPhone nano to debut in 2010 claims reports
Developer Host Optical, has shown what it describes as a "projected capacitance touch panel"
Apple will release a smaller iPhone in 2010 according to the latest rumours.
The device will reportedly have a smaller 2.8 inch screen, rather than the iPhone's current 3.5 inch display, and is due for release in the third quarter of next year according to Mac rumour site AppleInsider.
According to the website the device, dubbed by the some the iPhone nano, will enable the company to sell a single global handset to all carriers, and specifically to Verizon Wireless in the US.
iLounge, an independent resource for all things iPod, iPhone, iTunes, also offers the first pictures and diagrams of a touchscreen display that a Taiwanese company claims is being used in the upcoming 2.8 inch iPhone.
"The developer of these displays, Host Optical, has shown what it describes as a "projected capacitance touch panel," complete with a collection of characteristics that it suggests are superior to the ones being used in the original iPhone," writes Jeremy Horwitz, Editor-in-Chief, iLounge.
"According to the company, the displays have "no significant" ageing effect - they don’t get progressively less sensitive over time - and are claimed to be more durable than alternatives, waterproof, plus resistant to high humidities and temperatures."
AppleInsider adds the new "worldmode" iPhone will gain compatibility with CDMA2000 networks - including Verizon's US network, which is currently incompatible with existing iPhone models - while retaining compatibility with UMTS 3G networks globally using a new hybrid chip produced by Qualcomm.

I can't believe that apple will launch 2.8 inch screen iphone. This will be useless for most important tasks such as gaming and video and other applications. But other rumors may be true.

or is that B-S???? Really, exactually why would Apple make a CDMA phone for a company like Verizon???
Verizon hates Apple. Verizon hates its own customers. :-) Nickel and dime Verizon is all about control and I think its getting scared that it will not be able to really compete until 4G comes around. Then it ---- might----- get the iPhone.
Just a thought.

I don't think it will have a 2.5" screen somehow chaps...
If it does it'll have an App Store with ZERO apps in it won't it!

This sounds more like a marketing ploy on behalf of the company producing the screens to me "According to the company, the displays have "no significant" ageing effect - they don’t get progressively less sensitive over time - and are claimed to be more durable than alternatives, waterproof, plus resistant to high humidities and temperatures." Oh really! Wow they sound so great maybe my company should use them...
