Liverpool police officers with dislexia are to be given iPods to help them remember the Highway Code.

According to local reports in the Liverpool Daily Post, student police taking driver training will be given the devices to download images of road signs — it's part of a pilot scheme to cater for officers with disabilities.

The iPods will also hold 900 hours of information from the force's police training manual.

Another 30 UK forces are looking at the scheme, and plan to launch similar schemes next year.

A police spokesman said: "A couple of our trainees were struggling to read all the paperwork — so we decided to replace it with audio.

"The scheme is really worthwhile as it accommodates the needs of those officers with hidden disabilities such as dyslexia who would find it difficult to digest such a vast amount of information in written format."
