UK broadcaster Channel 4 has joined the BBC to make some of its shows available through iTunes in the UK.

A selection of shows including hits Shameless, Skins, Peep Show, Black Books, Spaced, Monarchy and Teachers are available now through Apple's online media and entertainment service.

Shows cost £1.89 per episode and both current and previous series have been made available of some shows.

The move emerges as the broadcaster ramps-up its digital media strategy. The company this week announced a new £50 million creative fund for digital media projects.

"Digital technology transforms our audiences’ ability to create, access and engage with our content, making it easier for us to identify the best new British creativity and bring it to a wider UK audience and catalyse a new generation of digital media production companies," said Channel 4 chief executive Andy Duncan.

The latest episodes of popular dramas Shameless and Skins will be made available for download the day after transmission. More shows from Channel 4 will be added to iTunes in the near future.
