Fri, 20 Jun 2008 Apple, O2, plot in-store sales deal
Apple may be unable to sell iPhone 3G in its stores when the product ships on 11 July.
Apple and O2 are attempting to figure out a way in which the manufacturer can sell iPhones through its online and high street retail stores at the O2-subsidised selling price.
At present, O2's move to subsidise the device means Apple may be unable to sell iPhone 3G in its stores when the product ships on 11 July.

The problem exists because iPhone 3G purchasers will have to authorise their new devices in-store, and Apple lacks systems to carry out credit checks in its stores, while its staff aren't trained in signing new customers to subscriptions.
"We are currently working closely with Apple to enable them to issue contracts in store. Full details are still to be confirmed," an O2 spokesperson explained.
Apple and O2 will sell pay-as-you-go iPhones at full price, expected to be around £350. These will be made available through Apple's retail chain, Carphone Warehouse and O2 stores.
