Digg founder Kevin Rose has spilled the beans on Apple's music plans once again, revealing some of what to expect within the next version of iTunes.

Rose jumped into the Apple-watchers orbit once again last month when he accurately predicted Apple would hold a special event on September 9 at which it would reveal new iPods and iTunes 8.

Writing on his blog, Rose reveals: “iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don’t already have.

“With iTunes 8, browse your artists and albums visually with the new Grid view; download your favorite TV shows in HD quality from the iTunes Store; sync your media with iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (2nd generation), and iPod touch (2nd generation); and enjoy a stunning new music visualizer.”

A Twitter post, also from Rose, informs, “the new iTunes 8.0 visualizations are really trippy - there is one with planet like objects wrapping around each other w/stars/light streams.”

Rose's information emerges as speculation surrounding Apple's iPod and iTunes-focused event increases in intensity.

Sync media with iPod touch (2nd generation)?! What about me and my soon to be out-of-date 1st generation iPod touch? :(

...and still no 'Watch Folders' feature? Makes iTunes worthless as a proper music manager if that's the case.

iTunes manages my music pretty well without watching folders. If I want it to automatically add stuff I download, I get Hazel to add anything in the downloads folder. After that I just do it all from within iTunes.

how about optimizing some code and making itunes handle LARGE libraries more efficiently?

Graham said on Fri, 05 Sep 2008

How large do you want it ?!? Mine's about 40GB an I can find what I wanna listen to!

What's the gripe with no 'watch folders', I find the default organisation perfect for my needs. Enhanced code for more efficient navigation of large libraries would be nice though - with 140GB of music and upwards of 700GB of video iTunes does tend to feel sluggish.

40Gb is no size at all for a serious music collection. Mine weighs in at over 250Gb, and iTunes has been an absolute pig handling it since version 7. It's unreliable, unpredictable, prone to freezing when syncing iPods and iPhone... It's bloatware, simply put, and there's every chance the code entropy inherent in the long-running software is going to get worse with version 8 onwards unless there's been some serious back-to-basics recoding from scratch. And I sadly doubt that's been done. But I hope!

need watch folders. WMP pwns this until it adds watch folders! What is apple thinking??? This is a no-brainer!
