Batch process photos and much more
- Manufacturer: Lemke Software
- Price: $30 (£15)
- Star rating:
In version 5.9.3 it can now import around 190 different image formats and export an impressive 79. But an application like GraphicConverter doesn’t get this long in the tooth without picking up some bells and whistles along the way. This one grew up into fully fledged image-editing package.
It’s surprising to find a toolbox quite so packed in an application of this kind. There are standard drawing and selection tools, brushes, fill and magnification icons. There’s also a very handy slicing tool for outputting image chunks for web pages and a unique transparency wand that enables you to select contiguous areas of colour. The package also features full GIF animation capabilities, enabling you to create flick book sequences from multiple image frames.
Most impressive is GraphicConverter’s range of filters and effects. Some are rudimentary: the Glass Blocks effect, for example, does little more than tile and invert a selected area. Elsewhere, though, there’s a gamma correction filter that’s worth its weight in web designers, a novel take on the traditional lens flare and a slew of professional colour correction tools.
Although these extra and extensible features add considerable value to the package, GraphicConverter X is still, at heart, a graphics converter. It’s able to batch process any number of files, saving the converted images to a target folder. You can modify images as they’re converting using batch scripts, many of which come bundled with the application as standard.
