Lexmark Prestige Pro 805
- Manufacturer: Lexmark (http://www.lexmark.co.uk)
- Pros: Fast print times; touchscreen controls; plenty of features; built-in duplex; five-year warranty
- Cons: Average photo quality; fiddly ink tank loading
- Price: £299.99
- Star rating:
The spec sheet for the Lexmark follows along the same lines as the others on test here: Ethernet and WiFi, duplex printing, card reader and automatic document feeder are all in attendance. The Lexmark Prestige Pro805 lacks a fax, but other than that it offers an impressive line-up. The Prestige Pro is listed as £299 but you can find it for much less online.
Like the HP in this test the Lexmark has completely abandoned buttons in favour of a touchscreen interface. It’s actually very easy to use and really does remove some of the complexity of using an all-in-one. The problem of giving all the features of a multifunction a different button has been solved in one go by getting rid of the lot.
There are four separate ink tanks in the Prestige Pro805, which all sit in a removable print head. The setup instructions are simple, though we did find seating the individual ink tanks a bit difficult to fit. At first it was hard to tell if they were inserted correctly. Minor set-up gripes aside, the Prestige Pro805 was up and running quickly.

The Prestige Pro805 really impressed us with its speed. It ripped though an A4 borderless photo in just one minute 27 seconds; a 6 x 4in print took a mere 33 seconds. Text speeds were good too, with a page of best quality text taking just 32 seconds. The quality of the text was good; not quite as sharp and crisp as some on test but good nonetheless. Images lacked some of the punchy, vibrant colours we’d seen from others, but again detail was pretty good. Print performance was fine rather than outstanding. The scanner wasn’t the Lexmark’s strong suit and a slow performance was matched by a washed-out and fairly muddy image.
We liked the Lexmark Prestige Pro805. It’s a good, if not earth-shattering, performer, and is fast and very easy to use. The photo quality wasn’t superb, but was more than passable. For an added incentive the unit comes with a five-year warranty, so the company clearly has confidence in its build quality. Overall, though not flawless, it’s an impressive performance from the Prestige Pro 805.
