Apple has cut the price of the 160 GB Apple TV device, now $100 less at $229, on the US online store.

Apple TV lets you view films, TV shows, YouTube videos, podcasts, music and photos directly on your TV.

The company has also removed the 40 GB model, with reports the smaller capacity version has been discontinued.

Some, including analysts, had anticipated a new version of the Apple TV at last Wednesday's San Francisco event which saw a iPod refresh and new look iTunes.

iTunes 9 adds a range of features, including Home Sharing and iTunes LP that would benefit the Apple TV.

Currently on the UK Apple store, the 160 GB Apple TV costs £263. The 40 GB model is still available for £195 but has a '1-2 weeks' shipping time.

They must bury Apple TV sometime soon.

put twin freeview tuners in it and i'm there.....otherwise it's going to remain a hobby for apple.

I know that many say stop complaining about the price difference, but put yourselves in the UK or rest of the world's position. Apple is a company I love, I own many of their products, but I an so pissed of with reading a post about a new product or a refresh, I excitedly get my card out to order only to find that Apple is again expecting everyone outside of the USA to bend over and prepare for penetration, I'm so fed up with being royally shafted!

Guess that credit cards going to have to go back into my wallet!

Just to put this into perspective, $229 is £138.10, add on our vat (currently 15%) and you get £158.86. Currently we are expected to pay £263.

I don't think any reasonable person even taking into account higher costs of trading etc could say that we are not being taken for a ride.

With little support & price of competition they can shove it.

Personally I think this is a 'firesale' before they bring out a new model - I hope! (been waiting long enough)

Do you think that Apple even think there is an Apple Store in the UK? They seem to forget about us when it comes to price drops. I know all about the changing exchange rates, but this is getting beyond a joke :(

Let's be honest, like most US firms - nothing exists outside the USA. They don't mind cos you don't matter.

Whole thing should be binned. Total hobby setup & very half-hearted attempt by Apple.
