Sony's forthcoming PlayStation 3 could potentially support Mac OS X Tiger, according to the company's website.

Sony hasn't yet clarified which operating system it will use for its forthcoming console.

"The operating system has also yet to be clarified. The integrated Cell processor will be able to support a variety of operating systems (such as Linux or Apple's Tiger)," Sony explains on its site, as first reported by AppleInsider.

The new console is expected to ship in 2006, after Microsoft releases its new Xbox 360 games machine.

Sony's Cell processor is a derivative of IBM's PowerPC processor.

Sony Music in Japan hasn't yet licensed catalogue for Apple's newly-launched iTunes Music Store in Japan.
