Apple’s recent update to its Mountain Lion Developer Preview appears to have enabled iOS-like automatic app downloads.
The OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion Developer Preview 3 update, issued on 16 May, has practically enabled the new feature, which can automatically download apps installed on one Mac to all other Macs logged in to the App Store with the same Apple ID.
9to5Mac reports that the feature does not yet work completely, as the apps aren’t actually installed on other computers. However, a notification about Automatic Downloads will appear when purchasing an app, and the Mac App Store will show the app as being installed on the other machines.
This indicates that the feature will be fully enabled in upcoming developer preview updates.
It is expected that Apple will use its Worldwide Developers Conference as a chance to announce Mountain Lion’s release date, which Apple says will be late summer.
Apple could also announce new MacBooks, iMacs, iOS 6, a new Phone, the Apple television set and/or iCloud updates at its WWDC in June.
