New Retina display MacBook Pros have been spotted on eBay selling for well above Apple’s asking price, as sellers take advantage of the laptop’s 3-4 week shipping estimate.

Apple’s new MacBook Pro with Retina display went on sale on Monday, and now has a delayed shipping time on Apple’s Online Store, and is out of stock in most other places on the web. Those lucky enough to have snapped one up quickly have taken to eBay in the US, and one has already sold two of the laptops for $1,700 (£1,093) above Apple’s asking price reports 9to5Mac. The seller has two Retina MacBook Pros left to sell, and is offering same day free shipping.

Several other eBay listings for the new Retina MacBook Pro range from a more reasonable $2,245 to $3,000.

The MacBook Pro with Retina display has four times the number of pixels in its display and is significantly thinner than its predecessor. It is only available in a 15.4in model, and has a new MagSafe connector. It also has an SD card reader, a HDMI port and two USB 3 ports and two Thunderbolt ports. It has Ivy Bridge processors and features Nvidia GeForce GT 650M, providing the fastest graphics on a Mac laptop.

How much would you be willing to pay to get your hands on Apple’s new laptop quicker?

I guess you can read the headline of this story in two ways, since Apple's 'asking price' is certainly overpriced...lol
