It's been almost a year since Apple first announced OS X Mountain Lion 10.8, and an increase in traffic from what appears to be the currently unannounced OS X 10.9 suggests that the company is busy preparing to roll out the new operating system within the coming weeks.
Traffic from what's believed to be Mac OS X 10.9 has been appearing in analytics logs since as far back as October, and Apple Insider reports that January saw that traffic increase significantly, from just a handful of visits in October to thousands of visits last month.
Apple rolled out a developer preview of OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion on 16 February 2012, five months ahead of its public release on the Mac App Store in July. Mac OS X 10.7 Lion was launched in July 2011.
Reports have suggested that Mac OS X 10.9 may be called 'Lynx', as Apple trademarked the name back in 2003, alongside well as 'Cougar', 'Leopard', and 'Tiger'. However, Lynx is already a well-known brand name in the UK, famous for making deodorants.

It is also rumoured that Apple will introduce Maps and Siri to the Mac with OS X 10.9.
