Many fans of the franchise have probably already completed Grand Theft Auto 5, which was released at midnight on 16 September but only for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. PC gamers are still waiting for the game, but will GTA 5 be released for Mac? And GTA 5 ever come out on iPhone or iPad?
If history repeats itself, the PC version of GTA 5 won't arrive for months. Rockstar, the maker of GTA 5, has so far kept quiet about its plans for a PC version of the game, sparking some fears that it won't arrive on PC at all. However, Eurogamer has recently reported that "multiple industry sources" believe that GTA 5 will arrive on PC in the first quarter of 2014.
Will GTA 5 be released for Mac?
Grand Theft Auto 4 was never released for Mac. This means that Rockstar may decide not to release Grand Theft Auto 5 for Mac either, but, by using Windows virtualisation software such as Parallels, VMware or Bootcamp, it's possible to play the PC version of the game.
So, if the reports of a 2014 PC launch are true, Mac users could be able to play Grand Theft Auto 5 within the first few months of next year.
That said, the company did release Max Payne 3 for Mac earlier this year, so a GTA 5 for Mac that can be played without using virtualisation software is still possible.
What GTA games can I play on Mac?
While GTA 5 is not available to buy for Mac, there are several Grand Theft Auto games in the Mac App Store. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is £10.49 from the Mac App Store, while Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Audo 3 are both available for £6.99.
Will GTA 5 be released for iOS?
As for iOS, it looks unlikely that the full game will make it onto our iPhones and iPads, but two companion apps are available for iOS already.
The first is Grand Theft Auto V: The Manual. It's a 100-page manual that is designed to help you through the game, and also includes an interactive version of the game map. The app is set to arrive on Mac soon, and is already available for PC.
The second app is called Grand Theft Auto: iFruit, which offers game news, the ability to create GTA 5 vehicles using the Los Santos Customs feature, a virtual pet game called Chop the Dog starring Franklin's pooch, social aspects and more.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andres for iOS
Additionally, Rockstar Games has now released a third Grand Theft Auto game for iOS that features support for Made for iPhone games controllers. Grand Theft Auto: San Andres will is available to download from the iOS App Store now for £4.99, and will joins the Rockstar's GTA: Vice City and GTA III in the iOS App Store.
The game is a port of the PS2 game released in 2004. But, for the iOS version, GTA: San Andres has been remastered, adding better graphics and enhanced character and car models.
