The white 13-inch MacBook is now showing improved tech specs on the Apple US store with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card replacing the Intel GMA X3100 graphics card.

Memory has also been boosted from 1GB DDR2 Memory to 2GB DDR2 Memory as standard. However, it has not been upgraded to the faster DDR3 memory found in the unibody MacBooks and MacBook Pros.

New graphics card, still firewire (YES!) but still mini DVI not display port. Does this make sense?

MacWorld Reader said on Wed, 21 Jan 2009

It will make a great base model.

Confused, I thought the unibody was meant to make things cheaper to manufacture, as well as the integrated battery?

With CPU's having prices slashed why the hell do they put in a slower one!!!!

@Kevin said on Wed, 21 Jan 2009

Apple's idea of cheaper always means costing the end user more.

The CPU in the unibody Macbook was slower, but the faster GPU more than makes up for it.

I think that's an amazing entry model. Seriously, can't wait to see the test results but i bet it's way faster than the one it replaces.

Shame it's got DDR2 RAM inside tho'

Confused: While the aluminum unibody is cheaper than the welded aluminum of the Pro line it is not cheaper than the plastic that it replaces in the MacBook line. The only laptop with an integrated battery is the 17" MacBook Pro.

It's nice but at those starting prices you can see why Acer are outselling Apple. People don't have the money.

I know all the usual crap about OS X but this won't win any converts.

exchange rate conversion please something, lets get into the 'rip off britain' arguments...

BJ said on Wed, 21 Jan 2009

no - just too expensive for most.

"With CPU's having prices slashed why the hell do they put in a slower one!!!!" ...because these things are planned months in advance.

"exchange rate conversion please something, lets get into the 'rip off britain' arguments..." ...don't blame Apple, blame the UK government and the extortionate cost of running a business here compared to other parts of the world.

Don't forget sales tax is not included!
It varies by state.

When they bring out a 10" Macbook at 500€ I'll be first to place an order. Wake up Apple some folks actually want a netbook and don't want to buy the Acer or the Wind and have to fiddle around with Linux or Ubuntu.
