Fri, 29 May 2009 MacBook Pro firmware update adjusts fan behavior
Apple has a support page called About the SMC Firmware Updates
An SMC firmware update released by Apple on Thursday adjusts fan behavior of 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models when running under high workloads conditions.
(The company didn't specificy which 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros the update is intended for).
MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.3 is available for download from Apple. As with other firmware updates, running the downloaded installer places an updater application in the /Application/Utilities folder.
Apple has a support page called About the SMC Firmware Updates with more information about the installation process.

I'm running a 15" MacBook Pro C2D 2.33 with OSX.4.11 that's about two-years old. I tried launching the update, but it said it wasn't needed, which was a relief. My MBP runs cool, anyway but I have fan control software just in case any adjustments are needed.

I did need the update and it installed fine, so will see how my Mac operates now. Thankfully it has not been heavily used but that is about to change so glad Apple released it in time.

I needed the update too. Let's see if it makes a change to my MBP running at 75'C because of VM Fusion and other apps (and around 60-75% usage on both cores)
Strangely, system profiler reports my SMC version at 1.27f2 after the update. I was expecting 1.3 Can anyone report theirs, preferably before and after the update?

My MacBook Pro is nearly two years old, it did need the update and the fan did sound very different the first time it came on afterwards, so much so, with my window open I though it was a car outside making the soft noise, only when I moved my head did I realise it was my computer's fan.
