Apple's latest UK store opens in Newcastle on Tuesday 16 February. Doors will be open between 10.30 am until 7:00 pm on opening day, for those looking for free Apple t-shirts and a chance to view the latest Mac gadgets up close.

Reports late last year, suggested Apple would open around 50 new stores in 2010, with more than half outside the US.

The Apple Store, Eldon Square is at Eldon Court, Percy Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear, NE1 7JB.

All 23 Eldon Square retail units have now been let, with Apple joining leading retailers including Topshop, Topman, Hollister, New Look, Republic, Superdry, Schuh, Oasis, All Saints, River Island, Guess, Paperchase and Tesco, creating around 800 jobs.

"It’s been fantastic achievement letting all of the units in the current economic climate," said Eldon Square manager Tim Lamb in the local Chronicle newspaper.

"Work started (in 2007) as the credit crunch hit and it would have been very easy for the partnership to pull the plug."

"We could have said ‘hang on, this is a huge gamble’, but we showed confidence in our vision and we are extremely proud of our achievements."

Responding to the news, Chronicle reader floydhayes wrote: "I look forward to the following items:
The Whey-Aye Pod. The Whey-Aye Mac and of course the new Whey-Aye Pad. Thanks. I'm here all week."

Opening times for the Apple Store are Monday - Wednesday: 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Thursday: 9:00 am - 8:00 pm, Friday - Saturday: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm, Sunday:11:00 am - 5:00 pm.

Just for interest, Eldon Square is a large, well established shopping centre. A couple of years ago one corner of it was demolished and rebuilt for a more upmarket feel. Apple is in the "all shiny and new" part.
