By using Google's advanced search function you can find the following page on Apple's UK online store.

"Mac OS X Snow Leopard Up-To-Date - If you purchased a qualifying Mac or Xserve on or after June 8, 2009, that does not include Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can upgrade to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. £7.95 Ships: By August 28th."

The Mac OS X Snow Leopard Up-to-Date Programme scheme, which started on 8 June 2009 runs until 26 December 2009 and offers customers the option to upgrade to Snow Leopard at a discounted price.

Information on the scheme on the Apple Web site still states "Expected Product Availability: September 2009."

Most observers including retailers such as Amazon have been expecting a September date: "Official release date has not been announced by Apple, though they have indicated this product will be released sometime in September," Amazon's listing notes.

Amazon UK is currently showing "Sign up to be notified when this item becomes available" still without a release date or price.

However, on Wednesday, a Snow Leopard Mac Box Set did briefly appear online before being removed by Apple.

Snow Leopard promises to refine, further simplify and speed up the Mac OS X experience.

If you are viewing an unofficial page, then I'd imagine the information on it could be unofficial. I don't think Apple have actually said this officially.

Try changing the 'uk' to 'us' in the URL and the date changes to September.

I wonder whether installing this will make my beloved old Powerbook G4 run any faster?

Mark said on Fri, 21 Aug 2009

Brian: You can't install Snow Leopard on your G4 its Intel only.

Pete said on Fri, 21 Aug 2009

Now be changed to say September...

@Brian said on Fri, 21 Aug 2009

They want you to buy a new computer. Makes the sales look good.

SKanger said on Fri, 21 Aug 2009

Change the uk in the url to ie (for Ireland) and it says September for shipping date, but gives a Euro price of €8.95

Wouldn't it be nice if Apple would just announce a specific date and be done with all of this mindless speculation, rumors, and "unofficial" crap?

"Wouldn't it be nice if Apple would just announce a specific date and be done with all of this mindless speculation, rumors, and "unofficial" crap?" yes like Microsoft ; )

Dragonfly said on Fri, 21 Aug 2009

It'll be released when it's released, quite possibly in September. Probably best to wait until early adoption problems are ironed out.

Wouldn't it be nice if publications like Macworld waited for official announcements instead of trotting out baseless rumours day after day after day.

Simple common sense dictated that Apple would not release a new OS on a holiday weekend. That rules out 28 August (start of UK holiday weekend) and 4 September (start of US/Canada holiday weekend). Not only is their Customer Service at skeleton staff, but launch sales would be lower with people away. Apple needs maximum sales for obvious reasons. This is pretty basic stuff that professional reporters should have grasped.

Amen @James Donevan!

Wouldn't it be <strike>nice</strike> a missed marketing opportunity if Apple would just announce a specific date and be done with all of this <strike>mindless speculation, rumors, and "unofficial" crap</strike> free word-of-mouth-viral-hype and promotional media exposure? :)

Sticking with John Gruber at Daring Fireball who says it is the 28th and he worked at Apple. Insider info and all that.

It does make us laugh when things work out this way. Seriously guys though, it's not worth getting this wound up about it all.

But it is good when we manage to nail it. So this is an official "well done" to Nick for spotting this story and for judging it right. Especially in the face of vociferous criticism (we're looking at you, James).

Looking forward to Friday.

Snow Leopard adds in integrated Exchange support as a key feature, better than Windows 7, says Apple.
