Macworld Buying Advice
They’ve been a long time coming but the new iMacs deliver on speed and looks, while losing the optical drive and FireWire ports (both of which are replaceable with external options). As you’d expect from Apple the new iMacs look fantastic, although little different from the front. Do we really need super-thin-edged iMac screens or would we have preferred to keep the optical drive for playing CDs and watching movies? The new storage options are great, and the Fusion Drive will tempt many with its faster startup speeds. We were disappointed that you can later upgrade RAM in the 21.5-inch iMacs but love the easy access on the 27-inch iMacs. Read our performance speed test information as there are instances when the cheaper 27-inch iMac runs faster than the standard model above it.
