New iWork at WWDC: Apple seeking iWork bug testers, new version soon (we hope)

Apple's most neglected product, iWork looks set to get some attention. The company is advertising a number of positions in the iWork team, and crucially, the latest position being advertised appears to be for a bug tester, suggesting that the next version of Apple's office suite may be due to launch soon - perhaps at WWDC.

Browser engine forking isn't the end of the world

If you're a fan of Web standards and compatibility, two announcements from last week probably have you clutching your cascading style sheets in terror. First, Firefox maker Mozilla struck a partnership with Samsung in which the handset manufacturer pledged to help bring an experimental Web browser engine called Servo to phones with ARM processors running the Android operating system. (ARM chips power most Android phones--and most mobile devices.) Then Google's browser team said it would be "forking"--creating a new branch of code--from the WebKit engine that Apple helped bring into being and develop for its Safari browser.

Crossing borders with the iTunes Store

While Apple's iTunes Store, App Store and Mac App Store are international and available in most countries around the world, the stores aren't as global as they ought to be. Though the Internet has no borders, Apple's stores certainly do. A lapsed New Yorker, I've lived in France for nearly 30 years, and I'm planning to move to England in a couple of months. I contacted Apple to find out what I could do to transfer my French iTunes Store, App Store and Mac App Store accounts to the UK, and was very surprised at the answer I received.
