WriteRoom is back with an update designed to reclaim the distraction-free writing crown. Relative upstart iA Writer garnered critical acclaim after it graduated from the iPad to OS X so WriteRoom 3 has a bit of catching up to do.
The new version is, largely, a Lionised update. WriteRoom now supports Lion’s full-screen mode as well as its own, and the interface revamp includes Lion-style scroll bars. Auto-save and resume are part of the package too, of course. When you’re working with an application that’s little more than a blank screen with a blinking cursor, those are important updates.
The WriteRoom default look was always old-school, with green text on a black screen. If that fills you with horror, there’s no need to worry. WriteRoom 3 no longer defaults to that, plus you can customise WriteRoom’s themes easily and download themes from other users, too.
Professional writers need solid word-counting tools. WriteRoom 3 goes one better, with tracking tools that automatically output word counts from sessions to a spreadsheet.

WriteRoom has the features you need in a writing tool and none of the distractions
