TeamBox is an online project management tool that offers a balanced mix of simplicity, connectivity and team features. When you join up, you can create any number of Organisations and add team members to them. You can also join existing Organisations, if invited. As an administrator, you can then create projects that are assigned to members of those organisations.
The software gives teams several ways to track and tackle projects. Conversations are little like the now defunct Google Waves - a way for your team members to begin threads for discussion, collaborate and chat in a threaded format. It’s more accessible and instant than email and more persistent than shared conferencing. Organisations can also create Wiki-like pages, for content that’s important to your project and shared between members. There’s also a Files feature which is a storage area for swapping desktop documents.
The Tasks area is the core of the service. It’s here that you can create tasks and task lists. When you create a task, it can be assigned to a team member - or you can leave it unassigned and simply notify selected teammates that it’s there. One groovy feature we appreciated was the ability to assign a Google Document to a task. That means you can attach an editable spreadsheet, text document, form or presentation to any task. Very handy.
Time tracking is essential to most projects and TeamBox has it built in, with tools that map the completion of task to a calendar and that can also be used to monitor time spent on project components by each team member. The icing on the cake is that you can access all this with a free iOS app.
