Apple could launch its iPad 5 in June 2013, around the same time as a new iPad mini with a Retina display and several new colour options.

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek wrote in a research note on Monday that he believed Apple's fifth-generation iPad will be thinner and lighter, made achievable by the introduction of an IGZO display.

A June launch for the iPad 5 would be in-keeping with Apple's expected new six-month product cycle. Apple has already broken its traditional annual product launch with the iPad 4, which arrived just seven months after its predecessor this year.

The 10in iPad update could be joined by a new iPad mini with "modest spec boosts", says Misek, who suggests that the second-generation of Apple's 7in tablet might be available in six to eight colours like the latest iPod touch.

The iPad mini 2 is also expected to have a Retina display, something that many reviewers felt was lacking from the current iPad mini, which launched last month. See: Apple iPad mini review

Also in his research note this week, Misek said that an iPhone 6 with NFC, Retina+ display, 128GB of storage and multiple colour options could arrive in June or July next year, and mentioned the possibility of a cheaper iPhone and an Apple television launch in 2013.
