Apple has quietly begun testing iPhone Software 2.2, distributing the code among beta testers, a report claims.
The software apparently restores the capability to push email to the device in the background and better GPS-functionality, enabling more accurate reporting of speed or position while in a moving vehicle, for example.
Apple's 2.1 software release entered testing in July. It contained a host of bug fixes and enhancements and drastically reduced the number of user complaints surrounding the device.
Complaints had included failing or unusable applications, unexpected call dropping, unstable 3G connections and other issues.
