Apple has officially confirmed it intends opening a retail store in Rome this month.

As first claimed by a local Mac news website, a note on Apple's official Italian website now confirms the plans. The new retail outlet – Apple's first in continental Europe – will open on 31 March at 9am.

Apple has also confirmed the chosen location for its new store, which will be situated within the new Roma Est shopping centre, according to the announcement on Apple's website.

The company will hand out 1,000 free T-shirts to the first customers visiting its new shop.
