Apple has been slapped with a $43,200 fine over air quality at its Elk Grove plant in April last year.

The company has been hit with the fine by the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District, which is punishing the company for, "operating its emergency standby generator for a purpose other than maintenance or emergency power," across several days, according to the Sacramento Business Journal.

The procedure was in violation of local air quality rules. The penalty was an out-of-court settlement between the company and regulators.
