Apple has highlighted its Computer Reuse And Recycling Programme as part of the 'Hot News' section of its website.
"Apple’s commitment to the environment includes finding the most efficient ways to reuse or recycle electronic equipment at the end of its useful life. With the Computer Reuse and Recycling Programme you could turn your old computer into a brand-new Mac, iPod, iPhone or iPad," Apple notes. In recent years, Apple has worked hard to improve its green credentials following criticism from Greenpeace.
"Whether it's a Mac or a PC, working or not, we’ll take it and determine if it qualifies for reuse and has a monetary value. If it does, the amount will be credited directly into your bank account. If it doesn’t, you can recycle it responsibly through one of our free recycling programmes."
A 'How to get started' guide is available at www.apple.com/uk/recycling/computer.
Apple also offers disposal of packaging materials free of charge at local packaging collection points or in dedicated disposal bin via Valpak. More details can be found at www.recycle-more.co.uk.
Additionally, Apple will recycle old portable batteries in stores across the UK.
